John Mitchell Fine Paintings is an independent family business
established in 1931 and now in its third generation with James Mitchell and William Mitchell,
and their gallery manager David Gaskin.
The gallery is located in a distinctive listed building on Old Bond Street, and visitors are welcome
throughout the week.
James and William Mitchell
specialise in buying and selling paintings, especially those from private
collections, acting as agents for vendors and advising on all aspects of
picture collecting, in particular framing, conservation and valuations. The
firm participates in leading art fairs, as well as annually organizing both
loan and selling exhibitions in the gallery. Bringing experience, integrity and
scholarship to our chosen fields of picture dealing, our aim is not simply to
sell paintings but also to sell the idea of collecting, with all the long-term
interest that it may hold for present and future generations.
John Mitchell Fine Paintings has an active association with the museum
world, with important loan exhibitions of pictures from, among others, Tate Britain, the Ashmolean and FitzwilliamMuseums and the NationalMaritimeMuseum having been held
at our gallery in recent years. A selection of paintings bought from us by
museums features on the Notable Sales page of our website.
